Patent Attorney/Agent (Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Software)

Jones Robb, PLLC is seeking full-time registered patent attorneys and patent agents with 2-4 years relevant experience to work in Tysons Corner, Virginia or Indianapolis, Indiana. Responsibilities will include preparing and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications, including complex Patent Office proceedings, and working on other patent related counseling matters, including opinions and strategic patent portfolio development.

Qualified candidates will have the ability to work in a team environment and preferably have technical backgrounds in computer science, electrical engineering, software or mechanical engineering. Candidates must also have a degree from a top law/post graduate school, good academics, and two or more years of significant experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications. Ideal candidates have experience with complex Patent Office proceedings, client counseling with opinion drafting, or other related patent practice experience.

Mid-Level Patent Attorney/Agent (Mechanical/Biomedical Engineer)

Responsibilities will include preparing and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications, including complex Patent Office proceedings; and working on other patent related counseling matters, including opinions and strategic patent portfolio development.

Patent Prosecution Support

Jones Robb is looking for patent prosecution support staff to assist with all phases of U.S., international, and foreign patent preparation and prosecution activities. We are interested in growing our existing staff with individuals who are self-starters and who are looking to build, or continue, a career in the exciting field of patent law. Successful candidates will have an aptitude for understanding the nuances of the patent prosecution process, forms, and official documents as well as a thorough understanding of USPTO rules and practices, including EFS filings, public/private PAIR, national stage prosecution and formality requirements; have strong communication skills; be highly detailed orientated; be flexible and able to work under tight deadlines; handle multiple tasks and respond quickly to changing responsibilities and priorities; be highly skilled and comfortable working in an electronic file (i.e., paperless) environment and in utilizing computer software and technology, including MS Office products, Adobe, and the USPTO EFS system. In addition, the candidate should have excellent administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills and have the ability to prioritize and act on important details and deadlines. Foreign patent prosecution experience including preparing and filing PCT applications is a strong plus.

Responsibilities may include: assisting in the preparation of documents for filing and all phases of prosecuting US, international, and foreign patent applications; assisting in maintenance of existing patents; monitoring, processing, and satisfying attorneys’ dockets; processing new file intake; generating reports; maintaining repository of incoming and outgoing correspondence, various activity logs and conflict memos; and implementing process updates or changes as needed.

Formalities Clerk

Jones Robb, PLLC is seeking a Patent Formalities clerk. While experience with patents is desirable, it is not required and entry level candidates will be considered. This position also has a potential for growth opportunities for those seeking to expand their knowledge of patent legal administration. Responsibilities will include the preparation and filing of various formal documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Successful candidates will have an aptitude for understanding the nuances of the patent prosecution process, forms, and official documents, and be comfortable accessing and using the USPTO electronic filing system and application database.; If you are detail oriented; comfortable working with electronic files; highly skilled in utilizing computer software and technology, with particular proficiencies in MS Office products and Adobe; flexible and able to work under tight deadlines; and have excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills, we would like to hear from you.
