Hongbiao (Bill) Yu joined Jones Robb, PLLC as an associate in June 2017. Bill has been working in patent field for about 10 years and he focuses his practice in the areas of patent prosecution, client counseling, and opinions. Bill also has experience with due diligence, design patents, and post grant procedures, such as reissue, ex parte reexamination, and inter partes review (IPR).
Bill’s practice encompasses both mechanical and electrical arts. In particular, Bill’s technical experience extends to computer software, business methods, medical devices, robotics, drones (UAV), augmented/virtual reality, wearable devices, smart phones, telecommunication and networks, autonomous driving technologies, conventional, electrical, and hybrid vehicles, heavy machinery, optical imaging systems, cosmetic products, acoustics, materials, clean energy, batteries, fiber optics, health management, semiconductors, and aerospace technologies.
During law school, and prior to joining JONES ROBB, PLLC, Bill worked as an associate at FINNEGAN. While earning his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering at Penn State, Bill worked as a research assistant in the Structural Dynamics and Controls Laboratory. There he developed novel electro-mechanical piezoelectric transducer networks for controlling vibrations of periodic structures including turbine engine blades. During his undergraduate studies at Peking University in China, Bill studied theories in mechanics, materials, and controls.
In his free time, Bill enjoys fishing, hiking, basketball, badminton, and travel.
